Synopsis
Burning Mussolini is a satirical crime drama about a man who falls from grace and the woman who rescues him. Paul, an ex-boxer with a checkered past, had some initial success in his new career as a writer, but now he is stagnating, suffering from severe writer’s block. With the glory of the fight days gone and a self-deprecating view of his writing abilities, Paul begins to feel emasculated, unworthy in his relationship with his fiancee Cheryll, a successful editor at a family owned publishing company.
Paul tries to compensate for his feelings of inadequacy by giving her the mother of all weddings, sparing no expense to make the woman of his dreams happy. The problem is, he can’t pay for it. Paul and his longtime friends decide to rip off Benito “Mussolini” Bonacci, a local drug kingpin. It looks like an easy score. But everything that can go wrong in the “burn” does and it ends up being a quadruple homicide.
With the police now investigating the murders, Paul’s freedom may be at stake. The least of his worries. As members of his gang begin to die, Paul is not sure if the mob is responsible or one of the members of his own posse who now has a huge motive to keep the others silent. Either way he could be next.
Cheryl, faced with losing everything she has worked for and cares about, realizes that Paul is incapable of clearing up the mess he has created. Although her upper-middle class background has never prepared her for this situation, she takes care of it in a way that would make John Gotti proud.
